Our Expedition
We will leave from Tower Bridge in London, rowing together with the tides for between 6-8 hours, and placing an anchor to rest when the tide is flowing against us. Past the Thames Barrier, we will head out to sea and turn south, hoping for a nice easterly breeze to aid us as we row for Lands End. Around the corner, the next challenge is to head to Ireland seeking the protection the coast offers from the prevailing westerly winds. Picking our way up the east coast of Ireland, we will anchor in some spectacular bays, including off Lambay Island – home to a wild population of wallabies!
As we reach the north, we will cross back to the west coast of Scotland and through the meandering islands and whirlpools that make these waters some of the most beautiful but hostile in the UK. It’s then just 60 miles “over the top”, past the formidable Cape Wrath and through the fearsome Pentland Firth, before we turn the boat back south and sprint down the exposed north sea. Between 60 – 80 days after departing, we will turn back up the Thames and set foot back on land at Tower Bridge.

Habitat loss, pollution, the effects of climate change, and the pressures on seaside communities all shape the present, and future, of our island’s edge.
